Boxcar 101

Longtime Raleigh staple, Boxcar Bar + Arcade, has officially opened in Durham and it’s got one *major* addition that’s making their other local spots jealous: WOOD-FIRED PIZZA! Beyond their seasonally-inspired Neopolitan-style pies, Bull City’s Boxcar boasts 70+ games, craft drafts, a covered outdoor gaming space, private event space, and more. Sprawling 10,000 sq ft, this spot is their biggest location yet, meaning there’s even more space to drink up and delight your inner child.

(In a hurry and no time to read? Peep our video below for the 1-min rundown)

Toss in the fact that they’ve got an outdoor patio overlooking the historic Durham Athletic Park and dangerously tempting daily drink specials (ask any local how to have an essential Sunday Funday and they’ll tell you Boxcar’s dollar mimosas are an absolute must), and it might just be a matter of time before this location is the Triangle’s fave.

They regularly host free tournaments (skeeball pros, take note!), live music, special events, and plenty of other excuses to throw down. Plus, it’s dog-friendly and there’s always free popcorn. What more could you possibly need?

Your $15 perk should cover plenty of rounds of Pac Man and pizza—order a some brews and bring your A-game for a night of nostalgic fun.

*Please note: tokens must be redeemed in increments of $5. Redeem your Premium Perk at their pizza counter.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

With 70+ games, you can’t come to Boxcar and not play around a little. There’s pinball, skeeball, classic arcade games, newfangled immersive games…you name it. All that gaming is bound to work up an appetite and lucky for you, this Boxcar location’s got some badass pizza.

Beyond their menu of classic Neopolitan-style pies (MargheritaBacon GarlicPepperoni, etc—all $10-$12), they’ve also got a rotating number of daringly creative pies. Pickle pizza ($12)? Hey, it just might be crazy enough to work.

If that’s too out there, White Arugula with Balsamic Glaze ($12) or Buffalo Chicken ($12) pie perfectly toe the line between classic and crazy.

You can also customize your pizza with traditional add-ons, like hot honey (a MUST try if you’ve yet to experience it) and more—all for fifty cents to a dollar a piece.

PS: to the dietary restriction folks: Boxcar’s got your back. Pizzas can easily be made vegan and/or gluten-free. Huzzah!

Let’s talk drinks. They’ve got a full bar featuring 24 American craft drafts that rotate constantly. If you’re looking for a cocktail, the High Score ($10) *literally* outshines everything else. It’s made with local Conniption gin, pomegranate liqueur, lemon and simple syrup that’s infused with EDIBLE GLITTER. If that’s not sparkly enough for you, the whole thing gets topped with bubbles. Cheers!
